The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance celebrated its fourth alumni event on 15 November, providing a forum for its graduates to stay connected, network and catch up with their former classmates and professors.

The event has become an annual staple in the FDEF’s academic calendar as an effort to foster alumni relations and better connect the Faculty’s graduates with the University, even after their formal departure at the end of their studies.

“For several years now, the FDEF has been working on building its alumni activities,” said the Dean, Prof. Katalin Ligeti during her welcome address. “We have a LinkedIn group. Numerous alumni are supporting our internship offer for current students. We are always looking for ways to involve our alumni and we would of course also like to hear your ideas.”

The evening also featured a keynote speech by Marianne Bernour from LILLA, Ladies in Law Luxembourg Assocation, a network of women legal professionals who aim to “give women the tools to negotiate the professional world.” Guests were also introduced to Passerell, an organisation supporting refugees in Luxembourg, co-founded by Dr Catherine Warin, who graduated with a Master and PhD in law from Uni.lu.

The final speaker, Alexander Sidorov, graduates from the Bachelor en Sciences Économiques et de Gestion in 2013 and has since gone on to successfully start his career in Luxembourg. He recalled some of his experiences, such as being able to attend a talk with former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and called on all alumni to work with the Faculty to help offer opportunities to current students.

“It makes me very proud that you have decided to stay connected, that you are here to meet with your former classmates, to network, to catch up with your former professors,” Prof. Ligeti concluded. “Maybe you will make some new connections tonight. Maybe you can help a fellow graduate in their search for new opportunities. Tonight is about giving you the space to meet, share a glass and keep making new memories together with us.”
