The PhD graduation ceremonies 2019 of the University of University of Luxembourg will take place during the Graduation Week from 10 to 13 December 2019 on Belval Campus.

The ceremony for the PhD graduation is on

My PhD Graduation

When does my graduation take place?

Ph.D. ceremony: Friday, 13 December 2019 from 18.00 to 20.00 (Maison du Savoir)
Ph.D. cocktail from 20.00 to 22.00 (Maison des Arts et des Etudiants)

Please note that the ceremony is followed by a reception at the Maison des Arts et des Etudiants (MAE) on Belval Campus to give you the opportunity to toast your success.

We kindly ask all graduates as well as their guests to arrive 30 minutes prior to the event. Please consider the heavy traffic. As parking space is limited, we advise you to use public transportation. For more information visit

Where does my ceremony take place?

All ceremonies take place in the “Grand Auditoire -1” at the Maison du Savoir (MSA) on Belval Campus, located 2 avenue de l’Université, L-4365 Esch/Alzette

All cocktails take place in the “Maison des Arts et des Etudiants” on Belval Campus.

My Registration

How do I register for my PhD graduation ceremony?

After having received your invitation to your graduation ceremony via email, please proceed to your and your guests registration via the link provided in the invitation. It is mandatory to register yourself and your guests if you wish to participate.

Registration is open until 7 December but we encourage you to do it as early as possible. If we do not hear from you by 7 December, this means you cannot attend.

How many guests can I bring?

You can bring up to 4 guests. Please note that you will need to indicate their names in the online registration.

Can I make changes to my registration?

You can update your information up until 7 December by sending an e-mail to indicating what has changed.

I forgot to register, can I attend the ceremony ?

Due to organisational reasons, you and your guests will not be able to attend the ceremony if you have not registered until 7 December.

My Ceremony

Is there a dress code?

Your graduation is a meaningful event. Business attire is expected but not strictly enforced.

Is there a cloakroom?

A supervised cloakroom is available at Maison du Savoir Auditoire -1 during your ceremony.

A non-supervised cloakroom will be available during the cocktail at the Maison des Arts et des Etudiants.

The service is free of charge.

Is there a seating plan for the ceremony?

Is there a photographer?

Yes, there will be a professional photographer to take pictures throughout the day.

Terms and conditions: Photographs can be taken for personal use. During the event, the organiser will take pictures and record videos. By attending the graduation ceremony, participants authorise the University of Luxembourg to capture and publish his/her images and videos for communication purposes in relation to the event. The organiser commits to a responsible use of the material. Videos and photos will be used only for communication purposes of the University, which exclude commercial activities.

Pictures can be viewed and purchased online after the ceremony.

Can I bring kids?

Yes, but we kindly ask you to put them under the supervision of an accompanying guest.

Age 0-6 years: guest registration is not needed

Age +6: guest registration is mandatory

My Diploma

How can I get my diploma if I cannot attend the ceremony?

You can pick up your diploma at the Office of doctoral studies (BED) as of January 2020. Office hours are: Monday to Friday from 8.45 to 11h45.

If you cannot pick up your diploma in person, you can mandate a person. In that case, he or she will need a proxy letter and a copy of your ID.

If you are staying abroad, please contact the BED directly via e-mail and indicate a postal address. The diploma will be sent to you as soon as possible after the Graduation Week.

Which language is my diploma in?

Diplomas are issued in English, French and German.

What can I do if there is a mistake on my diploma?

Please contact the Office of doctoral studies (BED) via e-mail. We will check your request, and a new diploma will be issued in case of an error. Please note that this can take up to one month.

I lost my diploma. How can I get a new one?

You can request a duplicate of your diploma for a fee of €50.
