‘Impresso talk’ with Melvin Wevers, DHLab – KNAW Humanities Cluster, Amsterdam

As more newspaper become digitized, historians are confronted with the daunting task of making sense of all this material. How can one extract general trends from large corpora of digitized text and images? In this talk, Melvin Wevers will showcase some methods to approach these questions and show how he used both distant and close reading to answer questions relevant to cultural historians.

The impresso project, Media monitoring of the past – mining 200 years of historical newspapers, invites you to a talk on the use of digitised newspapers for historical research. Newspapers are a precious source that can be used to work on a great range of historical issues, from intellectual history, economic history, cultural history, diplomatic history.
