On 8 May, the University of Luxembourg and its International Relations Office honoured the laureates of its international awards for outstanding students, including its Top Student Prize and the U.S. Embassy – U.S. Enterprise scholarship.
The University of Luxembourg’s Top Student Prize, is awarded every year since 2008 to nine of the best students within the University’s three faculties, who are invited to a three-week summer course in Asian studies at Sophia University in Tokyo. During this summer school, the students learn the fundamentals of the Japanese language and discover all about Japanese society, history and culture.
Out of the 45 students selected for the Global Exchange Programme, the winners of this year’s edition were Julien Putz, Dany Dos Santos Ramos, Laurence Lampecco from the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC), Lara Jacoby, Tjasa Perger, Camilla Lazzaro of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF), Kevin Schutz, Kristijonas Aleksandras Brazas, and Cara Ströbel from the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education (FLSHASE).
Furthermore, three students were awarded the U.S. Embassy – U.S. Enterprise Scholarship. This scholarship programme was launched jointly by the US Embassy in Luxembourg and the University of Luxembourg in 2008 and is awarded every year to University of Luxembourg bachelor students spending a semester abroad at one of our partner universities in the Unites States.
The grant is sponsored jointly by the US Embassy in Luxembourg and by the companies Airtech, Brinks, Deloitte, IBM, John Deere Bank, JP Morgan, Pfizer, EMB, Ocean Oil, Goodyear, State Street Bank, Guardian and Covidien, Ernst & Young, Goodyear Dunlop, Michelman International, PricewaterhouseCoopers, BNY Mellon, Brown Brothers Harriman, Citi, J. P. Morgan, Northern Trust and State Street Bank.
This year, the laureates are Mélanie Jung studying History and Michèle Boon as well as Ognyan Darinov, both bachelor students in English studies.
The award ceremony took place on Belval Campus in the presence of University Rector Stéphane Pallage, Takafumi Shibata, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg, and Deputy Chief of Mission Casey K. Mace from the U.S. Embassy.
