Dieter Ferring is Professor of Developmental Psychology and Geropsychology and head of the unit since 2006. Prof. Ferring’s research areas lie within life span developmental psychology and psychogerontology. His main research topics range from self-regulation and coping in age and old age to subjective well-being and quality of life, intergenerational family relations, conditions of dependency and autonomy in old age as well as technology and ageing (see Working Group "Technology and Ageing" ). He teaches developmental and educational psychology, general psychology (learning, motivation, emotion) as well as quantitative research methodology and diagnostics both at the Bachelor and Master level. Currently he tutors three PhD projects.
He has conducted several research projects financed by the German and the Luxembourg Research Foundations as well as EU funded programmes. Prof. Ferring authored and co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles, more than 40 book-chapters, five book publications and several research reports to the European Commission. He is scientific director of the master programme in gerontology at the University of Luxembourg.
Dieter Ferring is associate editor of " GeroPsych - The Journal of Gerontopsychology and Geriatric Psychiatry ", member of the editorial board of the “ European Psychologist ” and the “ European Journal of Ageing ”. He reviews for several international journals, national research foundations as well as the European Science Foundation. In 2011, Dieter Ferring was elected Convenor of the Steering Group on Geropsychology within the European Federation of Psychological Associations for the period 2011-2013.
